PRESS STATEMENT ON THE VETTING OF TRAFFIC POLICE OFFICERS

The National Police Service Commission embarked on the countrywide vetting of traffic police officers in May, 2016. All traffic police officers from the ranks of Chief Inspector to Constable were vetted in an exercise that saw the Commission conduct interviews in the Coast, Nyanza, Western and Rift Valley Regions.

The National Police Service Commission is committed to supporting the Government in the fight against corruption in the National Police Service. For this reason, the Commission has vetted 904 traffic officers and removed from the Service a total of 127 Police Officers deployed in the Traffic Department. The reasons for their removal include: 

i) Unexplained Financial Transactions;

ii) Sending and receiving money from fellow police officers in the Traffic Department;

iii) Operating Matatu Business;

iv) Receiving money from Transporters and operators of Breakdown businesses;

v) Professional misconduct
