Mr. Naphtaly K. Rono, HSC

Biography

Commissioner Naphtaly K. Rono holds a Bachelors of Law Degree (LLB) from University of Nairobi and is an accomplished professional. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya of more than eighteen years standing and has extensive experience in both public and private sector.

Upon admission to the Bar in 2001, he joined Kiplagat & Associates Advocates as an Associate Advocate. Thereafter, he joined the National Intelligence Service as a Legal Officer and served in various senior capacities including heading the Legal Department until 2018 when he left to set up his own private practice, where he was the Managing Partner until joining the Commission.

Commissioner Rono has participated in the formulation and development of numerous policies and legislations touching on security sector and brings to the Commission, a wealth of experience and technical capacity in that field. He has also undertaken numerous enrichment courses and is currently pursuing a Master of Laws degree (International Finance and Regulation Law) at Strathmore University Law School.

In 2012, in recognition of his contribution and dedication to duty, he was awarded the Head of State Commendation (HSC) by the H.E the former President Mwai Kibaki.

He is a member of the Law Society of Kenya and the East Africa Law Society.

Commissioner Rono heads the Appeals, Policy and Legal Affairs Committee.
