Mr. Benjamin Juma Imai has a distinguished career in national security, spanning four decades of service in the National Police Service. He served extensively in the Administration Police Service from 1985 to 2023. His first posting was in Lamu, followed by Baringo, West Pokot, Samburu and finally Transmara Districts, where he steadily rose through the ranks, holding numerous senior leadership and command positions.
These include Assistant Inspector General, Deputy Commandant of the SGB VIP Protection Unit, Regional AP Commander in Coast and later Nyanza Region, Deputy Operations Commander in the Boni Forest operation and Deputy Commandant Border Police Unit. He also served as Company Commander in various locations including Nadapal, Elwak, Lamu, Diff, Mandera, Border Sea Patrol Team, a marine division of BPU and was Divisional AP Commander in Trans Mara among other roles.
Mr. Imai holds a Master’s Degree in Security Science and Management, a Bachelor’s Degree in Security Management and Police Studies and a Diploma in Leadership and Security Management. He has also undertaken a wide range of professional training both locally and internationally, in areas such as counterterrorism, anti-terrorism, high-risk operations in built-up areas, high-risk rescue, maritime operations, jungle warfare, riverine operations, seaport security, Incident Command System (ICS), peace support, conflict management, strategic leadership and operational planning. His international training includes courses in Italy, the UK, the US, South Africa as well as at the Kenya School of Government.
In recognition of his exemplary service to the nation, Mr. Imai was awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) in 2019.
