Mr. Douglas Kanja Kirocho has had a distinguished career in law enforcement spanning nearly four decades, having rose through the ranks to the apex of police leadership.
Prior to his appointment as the Inspector General, Mr. Kanja served as the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kenya Police Service. He also held the position of Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU) for five years and Deputy Commandant of the GSU for three years. Other notable appointments include County Police Commander for Kilifi County, Deputy Commandant of the Kenya Airports Police Unit, Chief Armourer at Police Headquarters, and Deputy Chief Armourer at the Kenya Police Service Headquarters.
Mr. Kanja has undertaken extensive security and leadership training both locally and internationally. A career police officer, he joined the Service in 1985 as a recruit Police Constable and steadily progressed through the ranks, serving in various operational and command roles including Police Constable, Corporal, Acting Inspector of Police, Inspector of Police (IP), Chief Inspector of Police, Acting Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Commissioner of Police, Assistant Inspector-General, and Senior Assistant Inspector-General.
He is a recipient of several state honours and decorations, including the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (MGH), the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS), and the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW), in recognition of his exemplary service to the nation.
