Biography

Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim Amin has over 30 years of distinguished service and extensive experience in the National Police Service (NPS). Throughout his career, Mr. Amin has spearheaded complex investigations into terrorism, organized crime, illicit financial flows, and transnational threats, including cybercrime, earning him local and international recognition.

Mr. Amin joined the Service as a Cadet Inspector in 1989 and steadily rose through the ranks, holding key positions including Head of Surveillance and Technical Services at Nairobi’s Anti-Corruption Police Unit, Provincial Criminal Investigations Officer (PCIO) in three provinces (2003–2009), and Head of the Banking Fraud Investigations Unit (BFIU). He also served as Director of the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons as well as Director of the Internal Affairs Unit.

In his current position, he has led immense operations at the DCI Headquarters including combating human and human organ trafficking, trafficking of narcotics, contraband trade, money laundering, and the protection of women and children. His crime-fighting approach is characterized by meticulous planning, robust inter-agency collaboration and the modernisation of investigative practices through the adoption of advanced forensic tools and technologies.

He holds a Master of Arts in Criminology and Security Studies, a First-Class Honours Bachelor’s degree in the same field from Egerton University and a Diploma in International Studies from the University of Nairobi. He is also an alumnus of the National Defence College of Kenya.

In recognition of his outstanding service, the Director has been decorated with the prestigious Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) and the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW).
