Courtesy call to the Data Protection Commissioner

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) paid a courtesy call to the Data Protection Commissioner Immaculate Kassait (ODPC) at Britam towers, where they held a consultative meeting to explore areas of collaboration between the two institutions.

Led by Deputy CEO John Wambugu, the visit aimed in strengthening data protection measures as the Commission transitions to an online police recruitment system. Mr. Wambugu emphasized the importance of safeguarding personal data throughout the recruitment process, noting that digital platforms must be secure, transparent, and compliant with existing data protection regulations.

Commissioner Kassait welcomed the delegation and commended the Commission for taking proactive steps toward enhancing data privacy in their operations. She affirmed the ODPC’s commitment to supporting public institutions in aligning with the Data Protection Act, 2019, through guidance, capacity building, and technical support. Both parties agreed on the need for continuous engagement to ensure responsible data handling, especially given the sensitive nature of recruitment information.

The meeting concluded with a shared understanding that effective collaboration between the two institutions will promote public trust and accountability in police recruitment and broader public service delivery.
