NPSC Welcomes New Chairperson and Commissioner

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) officially ushered in the newly appointed Chairperson, Dr. Amani Yuda Komora, and Commissioner Angeline Yiamiton Siparo, who were sworn into office on Thursday in a ceremony presided over by the Chief Justice and President of Supreme Court Martha Koome.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Komora expressed deep gratitude to President William Ruto for the trust bestowed on him, describing his appointment as both a personal honor and a national milestone.

“I take on this role fully aware of the weight of responsibility it carries. Our police officers look to this Commission for guidance, and millions of Kenyans expect an effective, professional, and trusted service. I commit to discharging my duties with diligence, integrity, and unwavering fidelity to the Constitution,” he said.

Dr. Komora outlined his vision of transforming the National Police into a citizen-centered Service. He underscored that this transformation will be anchored on transparency, accountability, continuous training, and respect for human rights, in line with recommendations from recent police reform task forces, including the Maraga Task Force.

To guide his tenure, he highlighted seven priorities: unity within security institutions, recruiting 10,000 officers in 2025, strengthening community trust, improving officers’ welfare, defending those injured in service, promoting fairness in processes, and working with the EACC to fight corruption.

He called for collaboration with government, civil society, the private sector, and citizens to reshape Kenya’s policing culture:

“With shared vision and unity, we can reimagine policing in Kenya as a service that protects dignity, secures communities, and earns the trust of every citizen,” he remarked.

Commissioner Edwin Cheluget congratulated the appointees and pledged full support to the new leadership, noting their role would be critical in strengthening the Commission’s mandate.

Representing the Office of the President, Jasper Mbiuki commended the appointments, emphasizing the expectations of Kenyans for ethical and professional leadership.

In her remarks, Chief Justice Martha Koome highlighted the central role of the NPSC in advancing Kenya’s democratic ideals saying the commission was the custodian of the Constitution’s vision for democratic policing.

“You are tasked with building a police service that is professional, humane, ethical, and trusted by the people it serves,” she said.

She reaffirmed the Judiciary’s commitment to working with the Commission to strengthen the criminal justice system and deepen public confidence in law enforcement.
